Stafford throws 5 TD passes, Lions beat Eagles 45-14

As for the Eagles, well, Kelly’s policy of not naming the quarterback entering the game is getting old. Last week they sunk to a new low in a blowout loss at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If you remember, Kelly was supposedly the smartest guy in the room when the Eagles hired him away from the University of OR prior to the 2013 season. After all, it was his plays and decision making that put his team in such a hole.

He left the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in London with a sprained ankle, and has been limited in practice in recent weeks.

Look, it’s obvious that the defense is a mess.

Stafford completed 27 of 38 passes for 337 yards for the Lions (4-7), who have also won three consecutive Thanksgiving Day games. It would’ve been even more lopsided had the game been more competitive.

Sanchez, again standing in for the injured Sam Bradford, made a costly turnover which allowed Johnson to beat safety Malcolm Jenkins on a three-yard catch for his third score. The extra point from Matt Prater gave Detroit a 7-0 lead. The Eagles responded by going three-and-out and using up 23 seconds before punting. The Eagles responded with another three-and-out that lasted 40 seconds. The score buried the Eagles. They took only 8 minutes, 45 seconds off the clock. They had just four rushing first downs and DeMarco Murray finished with just 30 yards on 14 carries.

The remainder of the time on the field, the Eagles defense was on the field getting worn out by the Lions offense. It takes a little time, ” Caldwell said of Abdullah.

Just when thing couldn’t get any worse for the Philadelphia Eagles it does.

It’s hard watching DeMeco Ryans play this way. And it’s the Eagles’ defense that becomes exhausted instead. He dominated on just 35 snaps and earned the highest grade of his career.

The Eagles brought back a familiar face.

The same philosophy should be true at other positions. He don’t run. You see the way he acts day-by-day. RB Ryan Mathews and TE Zach Ertz were inactive because of lingering concussion symptoms.

At tight end, it’s easy to admire Brent Celek’s work ethic and determination. He spread the praise around, to quarterback Matthew Stafford’s throws, to the protection provided by the offensive line, to the running backs sucking up an extra defender into the box, helping draw some of those single-coverage looks Johnson has always been able to abuse. So could Ertz’s return.

CB Nolan Carroll was carted off with a broken right ankle during the second quarter. Stafford delivered a nifty pass to help extending the lead to 24-7 to end the first half. Sure, he’s probably a bust, but at least we’ll know for sure with more playing time. Hell be a Hall of Fame player, hes a Hall of Fame person long before that — that will bestowed upon him. “We can’t continue to have three-and-outs, and now they’re back on the field”.

We keep hearing that there is still time for the Eagles to turn things around, especially since they are in a division in which no team owned a winning record heading into the weekend.
