Dame Julie Andrews turned 80 Thursday, and you couldn’t help but be touched by the outpouring of affection. She got her Broadway start at 19, and hasn’t looked back since. However, it wasn’t the acting that the England born actress was originally known for, but rather her extremely impressive four-octave singing voice.

She has broken many barriers in her career, not least of all playing a man, dressed as a woman, in 1982’s “Victor/Victoria“. The Disney film became a classic and helped Julie Andrew propel into Hollywood stardom. The duo married in 1969. Starring opposite a then unknown Anne Hathaway, Andrews plays the Queen of Genovia and naturally she crushes it. Both the first movie, and the sequel, are Oscar worthy, in our opinion.

Andrews won a best actress Academy Award for her role as nanny Mary Poppins in the 1964 film, in which she starred alongside Dick Van Dyke.
