That’s it for Raonic.

In another last-16 match, South African Kevin Anderson overhauled 12th seed Bernard Tomic 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours.

It was a simply forgettable day for Wawrinka, who had a chance to win the first-set tiebreak on serve at 6-5, but double-faulted.

“And after that, I tried to be more aggressive and really concentrate because he was a little bit down and I knew if I had to let him, he’s going to come back”. “There were moments where I hesitated. It’s always been hard to beat him, but hopefully I can do that tomorrow”.

It was the first time in five years that the double Grand Slam champion Swiss had reached the last eight in Canada; he went out in an opening match a year ago to Nick Kyrgios and got to the third round in 2014.

And “Mi-los” (clap, clap, clap) “Rao-nic!” Find us on Facebook too! Still, he succeeded in that in game 3, as Novak had another loose service game, converting his 5th break point since the start of the match.

The boisterous crowd helped Monfils as well, though. “So I tried to play more intensity and, yeah, it’s great to finish early like this today”. “Even if it’s for me or not for me, I take it”. The Frenchman now faced a two-game deficit, 2-4. “I was calm, served very good and mixed up my game”.

Turns out someone could – and it just happened to be the best player on the planet.

In the second set, Djokovic seemed to be favouring his right shoulder and his serve lost some of its speed and accuracy.

Monfils was particularly successful drawing Raonic to the net then using a slicing backhand to put the ball behind him.

Djokovic beat Czech Republic qualifier Radek Stepanek 6-2 6-4 in a friendly encounter, during which both players repeatedly hammed it up for the crowd.

It’s not getting any easier for Kei Nishikori at the Rogers Cup.

He ended the game with a 189 km/h ace.

“(I) haven’t beat Novak for a long time on hardcourt”, Nishikori said. “I’m lucky. I get some few pains, but hopefully not major”.

Djokovic found his game in flawless order as he stopped the victory run of tenth seeded Monfils.

You can’t argue with that. He was going for his shot and being much better in the rallies.

Novak Djokovic said he needed some luck to escape on Friday with a 7-6 (8/6), 6-4 victory over Tomas Berdych for a place in the semi-finals of the ATP Toronto Masters.

“But I have to say I’m grateful for the kind of reception I got throughout this entire week so far, three matches on court”.

These two have played 12 times in the past and Djokovic has won 11 of those meetings. No Canadian man has won the Rogers Cup – previously the Canadian Open – since Robert Bedard in 1958.

If you misuse your barbecue, you’re literally playing with fire.

“So it’s very important to make the most of those, try to learn, try to be better from those situations”.

Then Nestor jumped in, again with a smile. “It’s one of the biggest tournaments we have in sports”. Not enough people on Grandstand.
