Stan Wawrinka joins Nishikori, Djokovic and Monfils in US Open semis
He next will face the victor of Wednesday night’s last quarterfinal between 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro and No. 3 seed Stan Wawrinka.

Del Potro was bidding to reach his first grand-slam semi-final since a wrist injury derailed his career but the Argentinian ran out of steam in Arthur Ashe Stadium as Wawrinka won 7-6 (7/5), 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
It is Wawrinka, however, who goes through to the last four and he will now face Nishikori, who had earlier recorded a surprise five-set victory over Murray.
The 2009 US Open champion missed nine grand slams in a row while undergoing three bouts of surgery but he showed signs of a resurgence at the Olympics last month and has backed it up with a strong run in NY. “If anything, that’s the biggest silver lining I take”.
These two have played five times in the past and Wawrinka has won three of those meetings. “I’m so glad for that”.
The Argentine had had a bruising recent schedule, including his efforts at the Olympics in Brazil, and he used that experience to claim the only break for a 4-3 lead in the second set. She finished with 18 aces.
Konjuh knocked off fourth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska, avenging her heartbreaking loss to the Pole in the second round at Wimbledon, while Pliskova ousted Venus Williams to make the last eight of a Grand Slam for the first time after 17 prior attempts.
The American group is led by fourth-seeded Amanda Anisimova, a 15-year-old who was a French Open junior finalist. “He’s an incredible player and I’m really happy to have won that match”.
Serena Williams and Simona Halep are heading to a third set in their U.S. Open quarterfinal.
Del Potro, the world No 142 who is aiming to become the lowest-ranked man to reach a Grand Slam semi-final in 16 years, stormed out of the blocks to lead Wawrinka 4-1 in the opening set.
He promises to be a unsafe opponent for Wawrinka, a two-time semi-finalist who saved a match point en route to a third-round victory over Britain’s Dan Evans before battling to a hard-fought four-set victory over Ukrainian Illya Marchenko in the round of 16. With the set on his racket, the Argentine faced break point at 30-40. He’ll be in trouble if this match goes longer than three sets, as Wawrinka’s power shots and the way he works the court will have him running for days.
A first-round U.S. Open women’s singles match will be looked into by tennis’ anti-corruption organization because of possible irregular betting patterns.
The U.S. Tennis Association said Wednesday that a “digital audio sound processor” was at fault and would be replaced before the night session.
The New York Times first reported on the alert to the TIU.
Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori meet in the semifinals of the 2016 US Open. In the victory, Nishikori won 72 percent of his first serve points and 43 percent of his second serve points.
“Exactly the same thing”, Murray exclaimed.
Beginning with seven consecutive holds and zero break points, the third set was a pretty routine affair.

Murray complained about the ruling right away, gave away the next three points to lose the game, then brought it up again with Cicak at the ensuing changeover, saying something similar had happened earlier without a re-do of the point.
