Stana Katic: Basically Fired from Castle!
Detective Kate Beckett is leaving Castle.

In an official statement, the network revealed that Katic will no longer be part of “Castle” season 9, along with co-star Tamala Jones (Lanie Parish). Tamala Jones is also exiting, and the Season 8 finale will the final episode that we will also be seeing her character Lanie, the always entertaining medical examiner. Actress Stana Katic, who has been the ABC drama’s leading lady for eight seasons, will not return for “Castle” Season 9.
It is how the beloved series will look and feel like in the next season that he considers two options for. “Thank you to the fans”, Katic told Deadline.
“Castle” star Stana Katic will not be returning to the series as Captain Kate Beckett – should it return to ABC for a ninth season.
Tamala Jones will also be departing the show in a shake-up.
Hawley traveled a similar road previous year at this time, when as co-showrunner of The Following he set up a finale that ended with Kevin Bacon’s character venturing off to be a vigilante of sorts, as the Fox drama rode the renewal bubble.
Since Castle has not been renewed, ABC would not comment on any plans for the length of the potential Season 9 but confirmed to Deadline that Katic and Jones won’t be part of it. It was not her decision to the leave the series, unlike the other recent newsworthy departure of a female lead on Sleepy Hollow, but rather she was asked not to return. Seeing Castle pine for a departed Beckett might be hard, but it beats the alternative of erasing her from the narrative completely. Of course, I didn’t have to pick between them: though the show is called Castle, it was about their partnership at work and then eventually at home. Winter said, “We have one ending, a cliffhanger that we’re excited about, because we believe in “Castle” and we believe that ABC will hopefully, hopefully bring us back”.
So what happens to Nathan Fillion’s Castle now?

The original agreement for lead stars Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic actually ended in Season 7 and they’ve opted to extend this specifically for Season 8 only. That being said, they can finish off this season on the high note this show deserves and keep Caskett until the end.
