Stanford Rapist Released From Jail

He didn’t say a word before getting into a white SUV awaiting him.

He walked out of the main entrance of the Santa Clara County jail shortly after 6am local time. He should be in state prison right now.

Turner’s case exploded on social media and ignited a debate about campus rape and the criminal justice system after the victim’s 7,200-word letter to Turner that she read in the courtroom during sentencing was published online.

A jury in March found Turner guilty of three felony sexual assault counts.

California jail inmates with good behavior typically serve half their sentences.

All of this ignited a firestorm against Santa Clara Superior Court Judge Aaron Persky, who presided over the case.

The former Sanford University student and swim team star left Santa Clara Jail in San Jose, California with a paper bag filled with his belongings while news cameras filmed.

Protesters are expected throughout the weekend at Turner’s parents’ house, but cops are just hoping to keep things calm enough where nobody is physically hurt. That’s where he grew up, and where he went after agreeing to withdraw from Stanford following his January 18, 2015, arrest.

UltraViolet co-founders Nita Chaudhary and Shaunna Thomas wrote a piece for Medium on the day Brock Turner was released.

The victim said it wasn’t fair that Turner’s loss of his athletic career was taken into consideration when sentencing him. Sometimes I think, if I hadn’t gone, then this never would’ve happened.

It was a conviction and lenient sentence that stirred a national uproar. His decision is also seen as a reaction to a campaign to recall him from the elected position he held onto in June because he ran unopposed.

A well-funded campaign also is underway to recall Persky. “But we come here together to find justice in the early release of Judge Persky”.

He was charged with sexual assault instead of rape because although he digitally penetrated the woman, he did not have intercourse with her, and California law does not define that as rape. Brown hasnt said whether he will sign.

The two women detailed their assaults and the unsatisfying criminal and administrative processes they endured afterwards – processes that Willingham said for many victims can feel like a “second rape”.

The victim’s letter of outrage to Turner was viewed almost 18 million times.

State Senate leader Kevin de León on Friday pointed to another case, that of Raul Ramirez, a 32-year-old immigrant from El Salvador who de León said admitted to sexually assaulting his roommate. “11 cases ended with no time, either through probation or suspended or deferred sentences; nine ended in acquittals or charges being dropped”, CNN reported.

“There was a lot of hate”, she added.

“However, this was not the case”.

He was facing up to 14 years in prison.

Now that he’s out of jail, Turner, now 21, must complete three years of probation and register as a sex offender. He will enter a sex offender management program for at least one year or as long as three. According to CNN, programs of this nature tend to entail group counseling sessions led by psychologists conducting cognitive behavioral therapy. He will be required to submit to random polygraph tests and waive patient-counselor confidentiality privileges.

Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer said Turner has five days to register as a sex offender with his office in Xenia, Ohio, 15 miles east of Dayton. “And he will suffer the consequences for the rest of his life”, he said.

Additionally, anyone living within 1,250 feet from the offender’s listed address will be notified of his residency. OH prison officials earlier this month agreed to take over supervision of Turners probation.
