Elected leaders and community members rallied to recall a Santa Clara County Superior Court judge who sentenced a man released Friday after serving only three months in jail for sexually assaulting a woman during a party at Stanford University previous year.

Turner, like almost all California jail inmates, was released after serving half his sentence.

Turner, who came to Stanford from OH, was arrested moments after the sex crime when two graduate students riding bikes on Lomita Court around 1 a.m. found him, then a 19-year-old freshman, on top of a partially clothed woman.

His lawyer has said he plans to appeal his conviction but, in the meantime, Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer told the Associated Press that Turner had five days in which to register with his office as a sex offender, and will remain on the sex offenders registry for life.

It is expected he will return to live with his parents in Ohio. Turner was released from the jail earlier Friday after serving half of his six month sentence.

“In Texas, the range of punishment would be a minimum of two years, maximum of 20 years“, she said.

White said he believes Persky should be retained and if the judge is recalled, it will send fear to others on the bench.

Persky decided six months in county jail was sufficient, concluding, “A prison sentence would have a severe impact on” Turner. During that period he must regularly report to a probation officer, attend substance abuse counselling and avoid alcohol and drugs. “I think the message should be instead to men, ‘Don’t rape.’ I think we need to switch the focus”. Turner was released after serving 3 months of his 6 month sentence for the sexual assault of an unconscious woman in January of 2015. Brown hasnt said whether he will sign. As well as the cuts and bruises he received when tackled by two witnesses who police say interrupted the attack.

Turner was due back in OH as early as Friday night. Any person living within 381 meters of Turner’s household will be informed with a postcard, and he is forbidden to live within about 305 meters from any space where children are present, such as playgrounds or schools.

Protesters have called for the recall of Judge Persky, who last month asked to be assigned to the court’s civil division. The site has an “About Judge Aaron Persky” page, which includes a statement purportedly from the judge, as well as a section for contributions.

“You’ve got to be kidding me”, said another neighbor as he looked skyward.

As he regains his freedom, Brock Turner will face vociferous protests and heavy media scrutiny as an enduring public face of the issue of sexual assault on American college campuses.

Also this week, state lawmakers passed a bill written by the Santa Clara district attorney’s office, calling for mandatory prison time for those convicted of committing sexual assaults upon intoxicated or unconscious victims.

OH monitors sex offenders based on a three-tier system, which has different requirements for each level.

Campos also said, “We are here to stand with ‘Emily Doe.'” The victim’s identity has not been released. “He should be in prison right now, but hes not in our custody.”.
