Stanton, Frazier meet in final round of Home Run Derby

Todd Frazier went down fighting Monday before losing to Giancarlo Stanton in the 2016 Home Run Derby. He was named an All-Star ambassador, then played his way into All-Star consideration by hitting 11 home runs in June. “I’ve never seen anything like that”. Though he didn’t repeat, he made some history of his own. He managed 42 to extend his record to 92 homers.

And Stanton didn’t cheat the fans either with those 338-foot homers down the line.

“I knew I could do it endurance-wise”. “Luckily my bat path stayed where I needed (it) to”. 233 this season, but he does have 20 home runs and 50 RBIs.

“Being from the West Coast and taking the flight out here just for this”, said Stanton, who graduated from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks (Los Angeles County), “I figure it’s a waste if I don’t bring this bad boy home”. Hee-Seop Choi, who was in the contest because of MLB’s global affair to promote the World Baseball Classic, hit five home runs back in 2005 and he was the all-time leader. The ball began to carry a bit more, a few drifted toward center field, and 15 cleared the fences once his time was up. I like this format.

Wil Myers of the San Diego Padres tried to become the second hometown player to with the Derby. Frazier defeated Duvall, 16-15, in the semifinals. The longest hit ball of the night was Stanton’s 497 feet, a mark he hit twice. Trumbo managed to salvage his pride with a valiant effort, tallying 14 big flies of his own.

61 homers in 13 and a half minutes means Stanton drilled one every 13.3 seconds, which is absurd. He stepped in after Mark Trumbo laced eight straight home runs to knock off Corey Seager, and somehow provided an even more jaw-dropping spectacle.

In the end, Stanton’s raw power trumped Frazier’s Derby experience as the Miami Marlins slugger prevailed with relative ease, winning 20-13. He was grooving them all day. “I remember seeing that, and just being so shocked”. “I would like to return that”.

“I’m just really happy for him”. Last night he left Petco Park in shock as he put up an outstanding performance.
