Upon returning to Miami’s starting rotation, he will pitch alongside Jose Fernandez, Andrew Cashner, Tom Koehler and Jose Urena.

Beating the division-leading Nationals was a good first step for Miami. With his 12 K’s through eight innings tonight, he has compiled 253 on the season, incredible considering that he is being limited by innings and pitch count.

Fernandez is 29-2 in 42 career starts at Marlins Park with a 1.49 ERA, and improved to 7-0 with a 0.99 ERA in 10 career starts against the Nationals (88-63). Ozuna scored when Christian Yelich hit a ground-rule double to left-center.In the fifth, Ryan Zimmerman and Chris Heisey hit one-out singles to set up Danny Espinosa, whose three-run homer knocked Chen out of the game.

I think it’s fair to hold Fernàndez’s innings pitched against him, but hopefully he can comfort himself with the knowledge that those exterior limitations are literally the only thing holding him back from being a Cy Young front runner. You see, over the past month, baseball has desperately been missing something. Ichiro Suzuki got the go-ahead RBI on a groundout to second base, giving Miami a 4-3 lead.

Brian Ellington (3-2) picked up the win with an inning of relief and A.J. Ramos pitched the ninth for his 38th save in 41 chances.

“I saw a situation and at this point every game is huge for us”, Bour said. He had shut out Washington on just one hit and no walks through four innings before he fell apart. That much was evident from the sound and speed at which the ball left the bat, as well as the immediate reaction of Stanton, Cole and catcher Wilson Ramos. “He’s feeling really good”, Mattingly said.

Nationals: Baker denied a report about Harper dealing with a shoulder injury.

Baker said it was a shame to stick this loss on Roark, who lowered his ERA to 2.70. I don’t even know how long ago that was, six weeks ago or something like that? “Whatever it takes to get the job done and I had an opportunity to bunt”. I wasn’t talking about the present. Marlins RHP Bryan Morris was designated for assignment.

Nationals: RHP Max Scherzer (17-7, 2.78 ERA) will start Wednesday’s series finale with the Marlins. He started for just the second time since his injury. Both starting pitchers lasted less than five innings, and each got a no-decision.Miami’s Wei-Yin Chen, pitching his first game since he sustained an elbow injury on July 20, gave up four hits and three runs in 4 1/3 innings.
