Miami Marlins starter Tom Koehler and Colorado’s starter Tyler Anderson dueled through almost six scoreless innings before Ozuna, who finished 3 for 4, crushed a three-run home run to left-center.

Placing Chatwood on the disabled list wasn’t a surprise to Rockies manager Walt Weiss. “Didn’t look right. Body language was a little off”.

While scoreless through five Sunday, the two teams combined for all 15 of their runs in the first five frames on Saturday. Chatwood threw 48 pitches, the last of which sailed to the backstop for his third walk.

After a brief conversation, Chatwood headed for the clubhouse. They really did a good job of getting him out of there before he could do more damage to his back.

“With how valuable his arm is to us”, Hundley said, “you have to be careful”. He’s posted eight wins this season already, supported by a 2.89 ERA and 1.167 WHIP; his 0.65 ERA on the road this season ranks first among qualified starting pitchers.

“Other than that, I just attacked the zone and got the ball put in play, and they found holes”, Butler said. “Obviously it’s always good to get a couple of hits”.

Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton went 1 for 4 and has six hits in the series – all singles – to hike his average to.211. He also made a diving catch in the first inning. Miami’s rally began moments later when Derek Dietrich walked, Martin Prado singled and Ozuna greeted reliever Miguel Castro with a homer for his third hit.

Miami’s Wei-Yin Chen quickly gave an early lead away and lasted only 2 1/3 innings in the shortest of start of his career.

Miami’s SP Tom Koehler (6-6) worked 6 innings, giving up 2 hits and 6 walks while fanning 6. The Marlins are averaging 5.50 runs per Koehler start, and he figures to need that Sunday against the Rockies’ potent offense.

“We were trying to see what he’s got”, Gonzalez said. “Then, obviously, their bullpen shut us down”.

Miami (37-32) has taken the first three games against the Rockies (32-36) since returning home from the West Coast and will look for the four-game sweep on Monday night.
