Stanton shaken up as Marlins lose to White Sox 8-7

Giancarlo Stanton is out for the season with a groin injury, Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly announced on Sunday.

Miami team president of baseball operations Michael Hill says Miami is discussing whether to reach out to A-Rod. Last season he played in 74 games. “We’ll see where that goes”. “I have no idea what his interest level is to continue to playing”. It has been a different Suzuki at the plate in 2016, with a career-high walk rate, but it still seems prudent to not overuse him.

Stanton is hitting.244/.329/.496 and has slugged 25 home runs. In addition, first baseman Justin Bour, who leads Miami in slugging percentage (.526), is still out since suffering a high ankle strain in early July.

Martin Prado’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh scored Adeiny Hechavarria and put the Marlins (61-56) ahead for good.

Both Gomez and Rodriguez have struggled this season and would not come close to replacing Stanton’s production. “I feel comfortable as long as we play like that”. “In that situation with two outs, we’re definitely going to take the chance unless it’s a lined, hard-hit ball right at him”. If it’s him, if it’s someone else, we’re going to try to find a way to make it happen. Will the organization think the 41 year old can help make a playoff push or will they want to sign him to sell tickets leading up to his 700 homerun? Marlins left-hander Adam Conley said he has been pitching with soreness in his left hand after banging it on the roof of the dugout at Wrigley Field last week celebrating a teammate’s home run. He went down awkwardly and was tagged out at second base to end an 8-7 loss to the Chicago White Sox. “It looked like what you see when guys have hamstring (injuries), they just pull up”.

After giving up two runs in the first inning, Koehler got them back when he hit a two-run single off Sale’s right foot in the fifth.

Rivera’s speech to fans was as brief as many of his relief appearances: three minutes.

Saladino’s single to left almost tied the game, but Christian Yelich threw out pinch runner Carlos Sanchez at the plate to seal the win and Rodney’s his third save as a Marlin and 20th overall.

Wright is 13-5 with a 3.01 ERA.

Nobody ever said that making the playoffs is easy. “Like he said Friday night, he is happy and he is going to take some time to relax and hang with his family and friends”.

Ramirez had three hits Sunday. The San Francisco relievers gave up 5 of the 8 runs Baltimore scored including the three-run shot from Schoop and a solo home run off the bat of Mark Trumbo in the 8th inning to get the rally started. No further details were provided on why he’ll be away. Without Stanton, the Wild Card seems nearly out of reach.
