That compares with a more aggressive schedule past year, when Staples locations were open for four hours on Thanksgiving evening.

The national chain joins a growing list of retailers holding the line on a push to boost sales by opening on Thanksgiving.
The move actually is a step back from their store hours in 2014, when they initially opened at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Night and remained open until 10 p.m.
But Thanksgiving openings have been controversial.

While a few companies could follow Staples’ lead, many retailers will likely continue to open on Thanksgiving despite inevitable protests against the practice because “there are a lot of companies whose customer base really likes shopping on Thanksgiving”, Allen says. “In addition to great deals, we offer free shipping from Staples.com for our Staples Rewards members and everyone can buy online and pick up in store for an easy same-day option”.
