Nigeria global Obafemi Martins could be leaving the Seattle Sounder for the Chinese Super League, according to sources.

Martins has been a fixture up top for the Sounders since he joined the club early in the 2013 season, earning an MLS Best XI selection in 2014 and earning team MVP honors each of the past two seasons.

Martins will be joining big names from European football like Chelsea’s Ramires and Atletico Madrid’s Jackson Martinez who recently joined the Chinese Super League.

The striker was linked with a return to the English Premier League in the January transfer window, but British agent Tony Harris and the player’s attorney, Soroosh Abdi brokered the deal that took him to China, the BBC reports.

The Sounders kick off their 2016 campaign on 23 February against Club America in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League. He sustained a groin injury in June.

Martins signed a contract extension with the team last season, but the Seattle roster is clogged with three other forwards, Clint Dempsey, Nelson Valdez and Jordan Morris. The Martins sale could mean that Seattle has another forward in its sights.
