Star Trek Beyond soars to top of North American box office
Hollywood’s sequel slowdown continued this weekend, this time with “Star Trek Beyond” and “Ice Age: Collision Course” faring worse than their predecessors at the box office.

Tied at number three were supernatural horror film Lights Out and Ghostbusters, with both taking $21.6m.
“Star Trek Beyond” is the third film in the rebooted franchise that kicked off with J.J. Abrams” “Star Trek.’ This latest film opened mn behind that 2009 release, but experts say the returns are still promising for Paramount.
Star Trek Beyond helped to open the 2016 Comic-Con event in San Diego, California on Wednesday night (20Jul16), when the film’s stars took a moment to remember late castmember Anton Yelchin, who portrayed Chekov, after he died in a freak auto accident last month (Jun16).
