The third new release Ice Age: Collision Course had a disappointing $21 million opening.

United States audiences preferred Universal, a unit of Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) and Illumination Entertainment’s animated holdover The Secret Life of Pets, which placed #2 in its 3rd frame with $29.3-M from 4,048 locations for a domestic total of $260.7-M, and worldwide box office take of $323.7-M.

Paramount announced Monday that the next film in the series will bring back Chris Hemsworth as Kirk’s father. That’s fantastic for a small horror flick with a budget of $4.5 million.

Ice Age: Collision Course was skewered by critics.

On top of that, because Star Trek: Discovery is on CBS All Access, a streaming site, there is more freedom away from network restrictions on the plotlines and dialogue.

His character, Pavel Chekov, won’t be re-cast by Trek reboot series producer J.J. Abrams, and Quinto agrees with the decision. It made $36 million internationally for a worldwide total of $122.8 million. This movie also reveals that Sulu (John Chu) has a husband and daughter, and at the end of the film you come out with a stronger appreciation for his talents.

However, given Beyond’s US$185 million budget, all eyes will now turn toward the film’s global performance, Brevet wrote.

In its second weekend of release, Sony’s “Ghostbusters” is neck-and-neck with “Lights Out” with $21.6 million and tied for third place.

Paramount has tried to acquaint overseas audiences with the franchise as its sequels have come out, said Mr. Moore. The reboot has now earned $86.9-M domestically.

A week after debuting in a handful of theaters, “Hillary’s America” expanded to 1,217 locations, picking up US$3.7 million.

Box Office Mojo analyst Brad Brevet projected a final domestic haul of around US$180 million for Justin Lin’s science-fiction adventure, which sees the USS Enterprise crew shipwrecked on a hostile planet. The pic fared better with moviegoers, who gave it a B+.

Among limited releases, Fox Searchlight debuted “Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie” in 313 theatres where the big screen version of the cult series about two hard-partying best friends earned $1.9 million.
