Of note on the charts this weekend, is that Finding Dory’s $7.9 million has now helped it to become the 9th highest grossing domestic release of all time with $460.1 million. The film had one of best USA openings of summer to date, however it failed to match the opening of Star Trek: Into Darkness which debuted with $70m in 2013.

Naturally, the news of Star Trek Beyond becoming one of the best-performing sequels of the summer is contrasted with a film that has just become one of the worst: Ice Age: Collision Course completely bombed in its opening weekend, earning just $21 million.

6 million – more than quadrupling its reported $5 million budget – to tie with “Ghostbusters” for third place.

“Star Trek Beyond” has received strong reviews and opening day audiences gave it an “A-” CinemaScore. Both films brought in $21.6 million but the difference is that the James Wan produced horror only has a $4.9 million production budget, whereas Ghostbusters is on its second week already and is trying to recoup a $185 million price tag.

Here are the rest of the estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at United States and Canadian theaters, according to comScore: 1.

If there’s any good news in all this for Ice Age 5, it’s that it’s doing better business overseas, raking in $30 million to add to its global cume.
