‘Star Trek: Discovery’ will launch with two-hour production on CBS

The show will be set in the Prime Universe about 10 years before Capt. Kirk (the William Shatner one) starts his five-year mission.

“Star Trek Discovery”, the latest entry into the iconic sci-fi saga will feature a female lead, but she won’t be the captain, says executive producer Bryan Fuller.

– Star Trek begins production in September. He added that the biggest realization the character will encounter is that she’ll never be able to fully understand why the universe operates the way it does and she’ll have to embrace that. This is interesting because we’ve always seen Star Trek from a captain’s point of view. “We wanted to paint a picture of Starfleet where we’re going to have new exciting aliens and also new imagining of existing aliens”, Fuller said (via EW). “And we have a character who’s on a journey, and in order to understand something that is alien she first has to understand herself”.

Star Trek: Discovery comes from showrunner Bryan Fuller, who also launches Neil Gaiman-adaptation American Gods during the upcoming TV season. “We’ll probably have some more aliens than usual in our cast, too”. Kurtzman is co-writer and producer of 2009’s Star Trek and its follow-up Star Trek Into Darkness. ‘Star Trek ‘ is us and where we are going.

The Star Trek franchise is known for its inclusiveness, and I hear the new series will try to continue that tradition. The new ship, for example, already looks much different than it did in the video they showed off just a couple of weeks ago in San Diego.

What Fuller does know for certain, though, is when the show takes place.

What do you think about Star Trek Discovery? The drama, set to bow in 2017, will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.
