Star Trek: Discovery: William Shatner Won’t Rule out Bringing Back Kirk

Whether Fuller does envision Data aboard the Discovery at some point, “I’m not sure if I’d want to be a part of it, having done, at this point, 180-some hours of Star Trek”, Spiner said.

Showrunner Byan Fuller offered a tease to AICN by stating a hint is in the number of Star Trek: Discovery’s ship, which is NCC-1031.
The site also asked Fuller if Starfleet’s secret black ops organization called Section 31 (which we saw in Enterprise, Deep Space Nine and the Kelvin timeline’s Into Darkness) would also factor in the new series since the Discovery has the number 31 at the end of its registry number.
I think it achieved something that was desperately missing from its predecessors: An emotional core to the story.
The actor elaborated on why he doesn’t want to just pop in for a Discovery cameo, and it has everything to do with the late Leonard Nimoy.

It included a lot of elements that spoke to the heart of the franchise, from the introduction of Hikaru Sulu’s husband and daughter, some inventive and well-thought-out special effects shots of the Enterprise and giving us a new take on one of the original things that attracted me to “Star Trek” in the first place: The vision of a unified future. Now, we have an answer, and it may have been in front of our noses this whole time.
