Chris Pine, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban pay tribute to their late “Star Trek” co-star, Anton Yelchin. Abrams has an answer.

“His parents are here tonight, and we loved their son”, J.J. Abrams told the crowd.
Abrams has now spoken of the tragic loss the cast who grew close to him feel, and that continuing the movies with someone taking his place just wouldn’t be right.
And then, Anton. “As much as it is a celebration of this film and the 50th anniversary, there is something wrong tonight and there is something missing tonight and there is someone missing here tonight”, J.J. Abrams said.
“We have thought about it [killing off the character], we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it”.
Yelchin died earlier this year in a freak accident at his home, he was just twenty-seven years old.
With possible future film installments on the horizon, the same question has been on everyone’s mind: Will Yelchin be replaced?
If that moment of silence ahead of the movie’s Comic-Con premiere proves, there’s no replacing Anton – not in the movie or in the hearts of Star Trek fans everywhere.
Yelchin’s character Pavel Chekov, a young mathematical prodigy, supposedly has a bigger role in Star Trek Beyond than in the franchise’s past two films.
With a fourth film in the franchise already greenlit, the question has been raised as to how the movie will handle Yelchin’s Star Trek character, Chekov, on screen.

“Star Trek Beyond” opens Friday, and viewers are likely to mourn when they see the sage visage of Leonard Nimoy (Ambassador Spock), who died previous year after a long and rewarding career as actor and director.
