Star Trek knocks Pets from USA box office top spot
Ghostbusters – a remake of the 1984 supernatural comedy that replaces the male leads with women – dropped to less than half of its opening weekend box office, taking in just US$21 million.

Star Trek Beyond avoids the once trendy but terribly distracting lens flare in the second film in the series, Star Trek Into Darkness, directed by J.J. Abrams. All the related films of the series Star Trek which was released previous years are damn awesome and really loved by the audience.
Meanwhile, Ghostbusters pulled in $21.6 million, tying the James Wan-produced horror film Lights Out for third-place. This weekend was also Comic-Con, and with it, news about the newest Star Trek series with Star Trek: Discovery and its release date.
“If you go back and look at past ‘Ice Ages, ‘ the share of global has always been weighted very heavily”.
Paramount’s latest outing with the Starship Enterprise soared to $59.6 million (£45.3 million) in North American ticket sales, knocking Universal’s The Secret Life Of Pets from the number one spot.
Ice Age: Collision Course was skewered by critics. Below it, the much kindlier reviewed The Infiltrator has not proven to be a widespread moneymaker (an estimated $3.3 million for a second weekend, $12.2 million in total), but with an unreported budget, its success has yet to be determined. “A lot of our politicians and our fellow citizens could take a page from Star Trek and have a bit more respect for each other and for all of us”, he added.
Ice Age: Collision Course came DOA domestic debut with $21-M from 3,392 theaters, 55% behind the Y 2012 launch of Ice Age: Continental Drift ($46.6-M) and the worst showing for an animated studio tentpole in 10 years.
Star Trek Discovery will debut on the CBS broadcast channel in the United States in January 2017 before following episodes play on the network’s SVOD platform, CBS All Access.
Star Trek Beyond is now playing!
“Star Trek Beyond” stars Chris Pine, John Cho, Simon Pegg (who co-wrote the script), Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba.
Of note on the charts this weekend, is that Finding Dory’s $7.9 million has now helped it to become the 9th highest grossing domestic release of all time with $460.1 million. I guess we’ll see if this movie has legs in the weeks to come, but I’m not that optimistic, since the movie will be facing stiff competition from Jason Bourne and Suicide Squad.
