‘Star Trek’ resistance is futile, even in the Vatican
“On September 8, people in the United States and Canada who’ve expressed interest in Star Trek or science fiction might see a personalized greeting from Facebook to mark the 50th anniversary of the series”, Lindsey Shepard, marketing lead at Facebook Messenger, wrote in a blog post.

Stay tuned to TrekNews.net for the latest news related to the new Star Trek TV series and Star Trek Beyond. There’s no word on how long they’ll last, with Shepard saying they’ll only be available for a “limited time”.
For Original Series fans, Star Trek: Vanguard is sort of The Original Series as reimagined by HBO; it runs concurrently to TOS, and provides background to and explores consequences of TOS’s major events (like Klingon aggression and the Organians enforcing a peace, the Tholian Web, the Romulans bringing cloaking technology, etc).
Coming to the convention, which is a celebration of all things Trek (in collaboration with CBS Consumer Products), will be IDW’s Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall, group editor Sarah Gaydos, Trek comics writer Mike Johnson, artist Derek Charm, and very special guest superstar artist John Byrne. “We also wanted to honor the original design and spirit of Reactions, so we needed visual cues that were easy to identify at a glance, like Geordi’s visor”. In May, the social network added a flower reaction for Mother’s Day, but it disappeared soon after.
Shepard said the reactions will be available for a limited time to some Star Trek fans in the US and Canada.

“We may test experiences like this in the future, and will focus on community and moment-driven events like this one”, she says.
