Star Trek’s Anton Yelchin Won’t Be Recast in Next Movie

A sadness lingers with the news, as it does with the release of new film Star Trek Beyond this week, due to the untimely death of one of the stars of the film, Anton Yelchin.

“I can’t possibly imagine that”, Abrams recently told the Postmedia Network, “and I think Anton deserves better”.

When asked whether Chekov would be killed off, Abrams added “I have thought about it, we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it”.

The parents of Anton Yelchin have taken out an ad to express their gratitude for the support they’ve received following the death of the late “Star Trek” actor last month.

“We knew going into this movie it would be a bit of a heartbreak just because of Leonard (Nimoy, the original Spock, who died as Star Trek beyond was in pre-production, and whose death is noted in the plot)”, says the Star Trek Beyond producer.

The actor’s final film, Star Trek Beyond, is set for wide release in the United States on 22 July. While everyone is still mourning the actor’s loss, the show must go on and questions must be answered regarding Yelchin’s character, before that can happen.

However, Abrams did reveal that killing the character off remained a possibility.

Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, John Cho and Karl Urban are set to reprise their respective roles in the fourth installment of the rebooted movie series.
