‘Star Trek’ stamps mark 50th anniversary of franchise

The social network is celebrating “Star Trek’s” 50th anniversary on Thursday with new “Like” buttons that tap some of the sci-fi series’ most iconic characters.

Owners Devan Daniels and Michael Mangold say its a business decision to move to Drumheller-a place they hope they can “live long and prosper”.

First, MeTV will air the premiere broadcast episode of Star Trek, “The Man Trap”, at its regular time, Saturday at 8 p.m.

According to TechCrunch, the Star Trek emoji is only available to a limited number of established Star Trek fans in the US and Canada, “and only if you managed to get into that bucket of FB-identified Star Trek fans”. It also struggled with tense “relations with countries beyond the Iron Curtain, far away just like Vulcan”, the extraterrestrial planet and home of Mr. Spock – who was of mixed human-Vulcan descent.

The science fiction TV series created by Gene Roddenberry in 1966 only ran for three seasons, but warped into five more shows and 13 films, including the latest “Star Trek Beyond” starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg.

This Saturday, Sept. 10, MeTV Des Moines celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek with two special programs.

But it’s not as ill-advised as a mashup sequence that finds the crew of the USS Enterprise “watching” a bad music video of Nimoy’s infamous non-hit The Ballad Of Bilbo Baggins. The series is still going strong, with the third Star Trek movie on the alternate timeline – Star Trek Beyond – being a commercial hit. Now we might finally get it in real life – right down the voice.

Star Trek turns 50
