‘Star Wars Battlefront’ expected to ship 13 million copies

Analysts thought EA might raise its forecast to between 10 million and 12 million units.

The expected shipment of 13 million, is a lot more than EA’s previous forecast of roughly 9 to 10 million copies.

As part of its fiscal second-quarter report Thursday, the videogame publisher formally raised its forecast for Star Wars Battlefront, an action/shooter title going on sale November 17. “Based on the ongoing strength of our business and reception of Star Wars Battlefront, we are raising our full-year outlook for the second time”. What are your thoughts on the game? The Entertainment Software company is now valued at $23.71 billion and its share price closed the last trading session at $76.06.

Electronic Arts Inc (NASDAQ:EA) (TREND ANALYSIS) shares were traded with no significant volume change.

EA’s digital game sales accounted for the vast majority of total revenue.

EA recently released a public beta for the game, and it turned out to be the biggest beta that the company has ever done. EA said the biggest growth driver in the category was Ultimate Team, a mode within its sports titles that sells virtual currency.

EA had expected to ship ten million units of the upcoming shooter, yet as a result of an incredibly positive response to the game’s multiplayer beta, have increased this number to 13 million units shipped by the end of March 2016.

Also their Battlefield franchise with Battlefield Hardline and Battlefield 4 continue to increase with 6 million monthly average players. The “Battlefront” launch will also cover the Xbox One and Origin for PC platforms.

“Results exceeded our expectations again”, said Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen.

Electronic Arts’ revenues for the second quarter dropped to $815 million from $990 million a year ago. EPS was $0.65 compared to our estimate of $0.45, consensus of $0.44 and guidance of $0.40; FY guidance was raised by $0.15 to $3.00, reflecting the upside and the shift of Mirror’s Edge Catalyst from Q4:16 to Q1:17. The EA Studios division develops games and related content and services across a range of game categories, including the Federation Internationale de Football Association, Madden NFL, Need for Speed, Battlefield, Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
