‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ release delayed

We know very little about the next “proper” (after this year’s Rogue One spin-off) instalment of the Star Wars saga.

Sales took off on September 4, or “Force Friday”, when retailers launched merchandise in anticipation of the opening of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, the first Star Wars film produced by Walt Disney Co. From #ForceFriday in early September to recent questions surrounding Rey’s conspicuous absense from several of the film’s toys, the ubiquity of the Star Wars logo in the time surrounding the film’s release has been almost as big of a story as the film itself.

The move not only gives incoming director Rian Johnson additional time to work his magic; it also underscores that any long-lingering myths about the limits of December box office have been vaporized. It also alleviates a lot of summer schedule pressure for Disney, as it was due to release Star Wars, Pirates…

According to BGR, unconfirmed reports stated that the reason for postponing the upcoming film’s release was because Disney executives want to add more character development to the film’s new trio of protagonists Rey, Finn and Poe. Is Snoke Darth Vader? That series, taking place in-between the eras of the first two trilogies, has woven characters new and old, including this week’s appearance by Princess Leia, onto the show. The company also underestimated the character’s popularity, said Paul Southern, the head of “Star Wars” licensing in Disney’s consumer products division. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), Rogue One stars Felicity Jones, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk. This story will be set shortly before the events of Star Wars in 1977, and follow the journey of some rebel spies, looking to steal plans for the Death Star.

We can’t wait to see what Pierce The Veil’s Tony Perry thinks about all of this Star Wars news! Entertainment Weekly notes that “Star Wars: Episode VIII” was supposed to start filming in United Kingdom this month but principal photography will still push through in February.
