‘Star Wars’ faces off against ‘Mad Max’ at Critics’ Choice
Ma d Max won best director for Miller, best action movie, and best actor and best actress in an action movie (Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy respectively) at the awards. The film will be competing for best picture with awards heavyweights like “The Revenant” and “The Martian”, as well as with box office behemoth “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” – which was shut out of the Oscar best picture race. Shortly thereafter, Christian Bale won the award for best actor in a comedy, and “The Big Short” took home the award for best comedy.

McAdams was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress, which ended up going to Alicia Vikander of “The Danish Girl”. The drama, about The Boston Globe’s investigation of the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal, won best picture, best acting ensemble, and best original screenplay.
The 21st Critics Choice Awards, hosted by “Silicon Valley” star TJ Miller at the Santa Monica Airport, combined both the glamour of Hollywood with the inevitable crush of awards season, cramming in both TV and film accolades and running over three hours long.
On the TV front, “Mr. Robot” built on its Golden Globes momentum, winning for best drama, actor Rami Malek and supporting actor Christian Slater.
Brie Larson won Best Actress for her role in Lenny Abrahamson’s drama “Room”.
Jennifer Aniston also risked a possible wardrobe malfunction with her Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane dress while hitting the red carpet with husband Justin Theroux, who was handsome in a Givenchy suit.
Sylvester Stallone took honors for Best Supporting Actor for his role reprising his Rocky character in “Creed”. DiCaprio accepted his award via a pre-taped speech. “Fargo” won for best limited series and earned Kirsten Dunst a best actress in a limited series award too.
Constance Zimmer walked away with the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for her work on UnREAL.
Ansari, however, lost out in the best actor in a comedy series award to Jeffrey Tambor, who stars as a transgender, divorced, mother/father in the Amazon show Transparent.
Nominees and winners are voted on by the Broadcast Film Critics’ Association.
