Star Wars: JJ Abrams teases Kylo Ren, The First Order

In an interview with Empire Magazine, director JJ Abrams revealed how they came up with the First Order.

While many of us had assumed that for a little bit, it’s nice to hear something official in regards to his character, while simultaneously getting confirmation that Snoke is also a dark side user (which we also assumed).

Hasbro’s popular “Blac Series” of larger, more detailed action figures will be getting several new additions from The Force Awakens in the form of Kylo Ren, First Order Stormtrooper Rey with BB-8 and Finn. But even more intriguing, J.J. Abrams provided some background to Empire about the mysterious First Order, and how they play into the mythology of Darth Vader. “What could be born of that?”

Nerf is getting in on the action with Chewbacca’s Bowcaster and First Order Blaster Rifles. And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didnt get done?

Whether or not his willingness to share details about this December’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a result of his own softening of that stance or just Disney telling him to keep quiet remains to be seen.

But there’s a new wrinkle: not everybody who is bad is aligned with the Sith, the following that counted Darth Vader and the Emperor as members.

Kylo Ren is not a Sith. According to the official Star Wars site, the Star Wars YouTube channel livestream will feature “top digital stars”, and will cover a wide range of Force Awakens toys and merchandise before retailers open their doors at midnight on September 4.

Instead, Abrams recently told Entertainment Weekly, Kylo Ren is part of a different faction altogether.

From the first time fans of the “Star Wars” franchise saw the red broad sword of new villain Kylo Ren, questions that needed answers were raised.

The second biggest challenge was making a film that would be reminiscent of George Lucas’ beloved original trilogy AND exude a sense of novelty. How these two will interact certainly paints a rather intriguing picture and it poses the possibility of another Sidious/Vader-esque Dark Side partnership brewing. As such, not having direct carbon copies of the Sith and the Empire may well be for the best – and putting new doubt on long held fan theories only makes the mystery less predictable than it seemed.
