Star Wars nominated for five Oscars
This morning brought the always debatable Academy Award nominations for the year in film that was 2015.

The film snubbed this year was Carol, Todd Haynes beautiful lesbian love story, which failed to pick up nominations for Best Director or Best Picture. There’s no accounting for bad taste, apparently.
Iñárritu’s acclaimed masterpiece inspired by the experiences of fur trapper Hugh Glass, leads this year’s Oscar nominations with a huge total of twelve.
Like The Revenant, The Big Short also could enjoy a notable awards bump since it is relatively new at the cineplex (it opened nationwide December 23).
Another record breaker this year is Steven Spielberg, who produced and directed “Bridge of Spies“. Movies out on home video benefit, too. I think the juggernaut when it comes to technical awards will be Mad Max: Fury Road.
Room has never played in more than 198 theaters since A24 opened the specialty film October 16, but it will up its location count to roughly 300 theaters this weekend. The two also face Bryan Cranston in his portrayal of the Hollywood writer and title character of “Trumbo“.
The Tom Hanks Cold War Thriller “Bridge Of Spies” is at Cinema Grill, Mann Hopkins and Riverview…but will be out on video February 2nd. Considering that “Steve Jobs” underperformed at the box office, the nod for Fassbender is a borderline surprise. The same award was received previous year by Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything.
“12 Years of Slave won Best Picture a few years ago along with Lupita Nyong’o for Best Supporting Actress”.
– Jennifer Lawrence was nominated for “Joy” on Thursday.
They will compete against Brie Larson for psychological thriller Room, Charlotte Rampling for British drama 45 Years and Saoirse Ronan for immigrant tale Brooklyn.
Yes, Stallone (Creed)- in what is rightly considered his best performance in eons – takes the place of far stronger performances based on public good will. And while everyone high fives over the good fortune of the 69-year-old, I mourn for the far, far, far superior performances that will go unacknowledged.
Rooney Mara (“Carol”) and Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl”) are both at 4-1 for best supporting actress, followed by Jennifer Jason Leigh (“The Hateful Eight“) and Kate Winslet (“Steve Jobs”) at 5-1.
As expected, Pixar’s “Inside Out” landed a best animated feature nod, as did the Charlie Kaufman-penned stop-motion animation “Anomalisa”, “Shaun the Sheep Movie”, “Boy and the World” and “When Marnie Was There”. Leonardo DiCaprio and Alejandro Iñárritu picked up best actor and best director nominations for the film, while Matt Damon also received a best actor nomination for his role in The Martian.

In addition to overlooking the black community, the Oscars also ignore incredible performances from a number of other minority actors such as Puerto Rico-born Benicio Del Toro for his role as a Central Intelligence Agency operative in Sicario.
