Star Wars opening weekend tips
While the film’s all-powerful merchandising soaks up holiday sales, Disney will hope that “The Force Awakens” plays like “Avatar” and “Titanic” _ movies that remained top draws through January and benefited from repeat viewings.

Most movies include previews in their opening-day results overseas; Force Awakens did host any European previews this past weekend since it didn’t make its world premiere until Monday.
If you have the slightest fondness for Star Wars, this is a lot of fun: everything you could want is here, from dogfights between TIE Fighters and X-Wings to slimy alien monsters to trash compactor jokes to occasionally clunky dialogue to – especially early on during the Jakku scenes – a real sense of faded grandeur and deep history.

Everything that is old is new again. The general feeling is that the movie balances old (the original stars, hand-crafted effects) and new (the heirs apparent Daisy Ridley and John Boyega) in a kind of greatest hits of “Star Wars” that, while it may not chart much new ground, flows with the spirit of the original movies.
