‘Star Wars’ premiere crowd cheers for familiar, new faces

SWMFC had actually begun organising such events since a year ago in anticipation of the release of The Force Awakens, with more events planned right up to the premiere of the movie here on Thursday.

“Well, in the ’70s nobody knew what to anticipate”, Ford said in an interview with Starwars.com.

Adam B. Vary gave a glowing review, particularly praising the incoming cast: “Rest easy: The Force Awakens is 100 per cent Star Wars and something new, : he wrote”.

Dressed in a purple custom Versace tuxedo, John managed to cut a handsome figure as he posed on the red carpet alongside fellow stars.

Aside from Fisher, Ridley and Nyong’o, it also features Gwendoline Christie, who made a name as the formidable warrior Brienne of Tarth in “Game of Thrones” and plays Captain Phasma, one of the film’s villains.

He now stars as the menacing Kylo Ren in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Disney took over a half-mile section of Hollywood Boulevard for the premiere for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, complete with fan bleachers and spotlights everywhere. Abrams had been hired at age 16 to restore some of Steven Spielberg’s long-lost childhood Super 8 films – only to have Spielberg decades later lobby for him to be hired to direct the seventh “Star Wars” film.

“It can’t be said enough – not almost enough – that none of us would be here tonight without the miraculous creation of one man”, Abrams told the crowd before the film.

“The Force Awakens” will be released publicly Friday, with some box-office analysts expecting it to smash sales records.

Onscreen and off, it was a night of both nostalgia, looking back with reverence to the much-loved original “Star Wars” trilogy, and of looking forward, as the franchise shifts to a new generation. John Williams’ soaring score played in the massive opaque tent spanning four blocks in Hollywood.

Some eager fans had started camping outside the Los Angeles cinema as far back as TWELVE DAYS AGO in a bid to see their sci fi heroes and grab an early screening ticket. Damn right we should have a big-a** frickin’ premiere.
