‘Star Wars’ replaces ‘Avatar’ as No. 1 film in North America

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has unseated Avatar to become the top film of all time in North America, Disney says.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has set the domestic box office record with $764.4 million and counting, Walt Disney Studios released on Thursday.

Gone with the Wind still stands as the highest-grossing film of all time when inflation is taken into account. At this rate, The Force Awakens will definitely surpass Avatar’s worldwide box office record as well.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, it seems that The Force Awakens will now hold the title of being the biggest movie ever in North America. In response, a huge thank you was published by the franchise to fans for the utmost and unending support.

This means that the movie will likely continue to bring in sales, pushing the record higher and giving reason to believe that the new figure will not be broken for many generations to come. Avatar still holds the worldwide gross record at $2.788 billion. Disney also said it is the fastest film to earn $1 billion globally (in only 12 days).

Star Wars The Force Awakens is the seventh installment of the space saga
