The two producing teams have had been on good terms for years, with Marshall actually being married to Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy; George Lucas even shared some friendly rival banter with Marshall on the red carpet, exclaiming “We’re gonna crush you like a bug!”
What’s more, “The Force Awakens” has also earned the highest three-day gross at a single USA location at Arclight Hollywood after it raked in $715,010 at the Pacific location (via Variety).
Jurassic World has congratulated Star Wars: The Force Awakens for beating its global opening weekend record.
If youve seen the film, you already know: Kylo Ren, who was born Ben Solo, runs his ragged, crossguard lightsaber straight through the heart of his father Harrison Fords Han Solo. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” broke box-office records left and right this weekend. Wall Street analysts predict that this movie alone will bring in about $1.5 billion-$2 billion worldwide, and Macquarie had earlier projected that “Star Wars” merchandise sales could produce $5 billion in revenue in the first year. There are some sizeable narrative gaps as to what had to happen in order for it to transition this way (though we do get details sprinkled to us throughout), but as the movie got going that became a relatively minor quibble.
A Reuters Breakingviews analysis last week calculated that Disney may be on track to triple its Lucasfilm investment and earn an average of $669 million off the franchise in each of the next six years. Burbank-based Disney also stands to generate sizable returns across other business segments, including video games, merchandise and theme parks.
Generally speaking, many women would lament a trip to the movies to watch the new Star Wars filmon their wedding anniversary. This week, films including Sony’s “Concussion”, Paramount’s “Daddy’s Home”, Fox’s “Joy” and Warner Bros.’ “Point Break” will hit theaters. It’s the series’ lowest opening figures yet.
The wild card is China, the world’s second-largest movie market, where “Force Awakens” opens January 9.
