“The Force Awakens” will be aiming to top “Jurassic World” again for another record during the upcoming weekend as it sets sights on eclipsing the $106 million mark set in June by the second weekend of the dino sequel.
Shattering box office records, the latest installment of “Star Wars” has stoked USA film industry hopes that theaters can thrive in the face of a growing shift to online video streaming.
It did the same on Tuesday, adding another $37.3 million to its haul to beat the $35 million record previously set by another Marvel picture, 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. The movie is geared up to hit the screens in India on December 25. “Crowded theaters and continued sellouts will benefit other movies, though”.
“In the United States there are “Star Wars” comics, games and other products released all the time – helping create an ardent fan base”, he said.
“But in comparison to what we can do with this [the hospital], [the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens] is very trivial”. In 13 days, Jurassic World had made $436 million domestically and became the fastest film to hit $1 billion worldwide.
“I roughly know the story plot but I have never seen any of the films in the series before”, admitted Yao Yiyun, 22, a computer programming student in Shanghai. “With IMAX effectively playing two Star Wars films per year over the next several years, we believe it will add even greater visibility to our business”. “When it comes out at the cinemas I want to see it though, especially because I like science fiction”.
