It’s official. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is officially the king of the box office, surpassing Avatar as the highest-grossing film in North America.

Amazingly, the J.J. Abrams-directed film will have passed the mark in a breathtaking, universe-pounding 20 days of release.

Avatar is 14 on that list while at 21 is The Force Awakens as of this week.

Globally, “The Force Awakens” has so far made almost $1.58 billion, Disney said, which means it still has some work to do to overtake “Avatar” ($2.79 billion) or another Cameron blockbuster, “Titanic” ($2.19 billion).

If “The Force Awakens” takes off in China, it could have a shot at taking the title of highest-grossing worldwide film ever, a title also held by “Avatar”.
