‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Aims Record Breaking Opening Weekend

The film – the seventh instalment in the series created by George Lucas in 1977 – cost Disney an estimated $200m (£134m) to make. That figure still lags slightly behind the best ever worldwide opening – also held by Jurassic World at $524.9 million – but there’s still time for the final confirmed numbers to push Star Wars over the top.

According to social analysis by Amobee, on the films release there were almost 1.3 million tweets mentioning Star Wars with Twitter sentiment being 25 per cent Positive, 63 per cent Neutral, and 12 per cent Negative.

Following such a hugely successful first night, industry experts have said Star Wars: The Force Awakens could become the biggest selling movie of all time.

At the White House, a beeping R2-D2 and two Stormtroopers surprised reporters with a quick appearance in the briefing room.

That’s a deal separate from the Star Wars deal though, which means if you’re looking to stream the original six movies you’re going to be very disappointed.

Like the throats of Darth Vader’s commanding officers, box office records have been crushed by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

And Harrison previously revealed he admires the never-ending enthusiasm of “Stars Wars” fans.

Giving an end-of-year press conference, President Barack Obama revealed he too was swept up by the mania. The mass media and entertainment conglomerate expected the movie to collect another $60 million in ticket sales from domestic box office on Saturday.
