‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ becomes fastest movie to gross $1 billion

“The Force Awakens” has posted an estimated US$545 million in ticket sales in the United States and US$546 million internationally, in the 12 days since first hitting screens worldwide, a statement said.
Force handily surpasses the second-week take of Jurassic World ($106.6 million) in June for the biggest second weekend ever. “Jurassic World” also had the benefit of record grosses in China. “The Force Awakens” does not open on the planet’s second-largest movie market until January 9. Forbes figured that the collaborators are only shying away from potentially spoiling the movie for everyone so they opted against releasing a DLC for it in “Star Wars Battlefront”.
It was a highly competitive weekend, with movies ranging from Jennifer Lawrence’s “Joy”, which opened at $17.5 million, to Quentin Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight”, taking on $4.5 million in 100 theaters.
The seventh film in the “Star Wars” saga has made $544.5 million in the U.S.
The UK took in $97.2 million; Germany with $54.3 million; France, $47.8 million; Australia, $35.7 million; and Japan, $31.3 million; according to The Hollywood Reporter. Abrams-directed reboot took in a spectacular $286 million worldwide this weekend, with $153 million coming from North America and $133 million from overseas.
On Sunday, the sales for Saturday will be released, as will the estimates for the full weekend.

The company said the Star Wars film is bigger than ever and much bigger than what everyone there had thought. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
