Star Wars: The Force Awakens Breaks Box Office Records
The film, which also set new records for a December movie opening in North America, biggest Thursday night preview screening in North American and fastest film to $200 million U.S., is expected to continue as a box office draw through the new year. But for those interested in the comparison, the new Star Wars film did not break the dinosaur sequel’s global $316 million opening record. Fandango reports this morning that it sold 37% of the estimated 8.5M-0M opening weekend ticket sales for the J.J. Abrams film.

According to CNN, the film brought in $528 million internationally.
Unfortunately, while Disney may have domination of the box office, the corporation are still a long way off building a real Death Star, which would apparently cost $852,000,000,000,000,000 to make in real life.
The Star Wars franchise has a fresh set of faces leading it in its galaxy far, far away, a pair of formerly unknown actors named Daisy Ridley and John Boyega.
“I said to him, ‘You need to look at this as a $4 billion movie, ‘ that’s how I’m looking at it”, Iger told the Wall Street Journal this week. “It’s bigger than we thought it would be”. The studio has as many as five more Star Wars films in the works. Star Wars’ receipts are even more impressive given that Jurassic World’s take included $11.8 million from opening weekend in China, where Star Wars won’t be released until January. Firstly, with a $119.1 million gross from Friday alone, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has become the biggest Opening Day Gross, Friday Gross, and Single Day Gross.
