Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaks global box office records
Star Wars also beat Jurassic World in America – 248 million dollars (£166 million) compared with the dinosaur movie’s 208.8 million dollars (£140.2 million) this summer. It is the fastest title in history to hit those numbers. That’s a huge challenge for The Force Awakens, but with most kids and college students out of school for the holidays might help break the record. The top Tuesday ever belongs to Amazing Spider-Man which opened on a Tuesday with $35 million. Jurassic World’s worldwide opening, for example, includes $99 million from China.

The Force Awakens also shattered the opening day record at the United Kingdom and Ireland box office with a £9.6m taking, beating previous record holder Spectre (£6.3m).
“‘Star Wars” is officially the biggest thing to happen in the known box office universe now that it has taken the best debuts records – domestic and worldwide – from “Jurassic World'”, said Jeff Bock, box office analyst at Exhibitor Relations.
Its performance so far is a major victory for Iger and Disney’s film studio. The movie has-been an unqualified success for Lucasfilm parent Walt Disney Co., & sets the franchise up so well in that some people have stated George Lucas sold too low. John Boyega and Daisey Ridley, who played Finn and Rey, made less than $300,000 for their efforts. But that’s nothing compared to first-timers Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac-pretty big names in their own right, mind you-whose salaries fell in the “mid- to high-six figures”.

This is higher than projections, with The Force Awakens expected to have missed the global record. The Spidey sequel had amassed $27.7 million on that warm day in July, but estimates are showing that JJ’s fan fiction (I kid, I kid) is set to surpass $30 million without breaking a sweat.
