Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaks worldwide box office records
The franchise stirs up deep feelings of nostalgia across multiple American generations and the launch of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this past weekend drew massive crowds.

From Wednesday, December 16 when early showings of The Force Awakens kicked off in Britain through last night, 64 million people worldwide had 140 million interactions (including likes, comments, and shares) about it on Facebook.
Only a few months ago Jurassic World broke records by earning $525 million globally in its opening weekend, but Star Wars: The Force Awakens has just beaten that by just $4 million. Despite the dissent of many enraged Star Wars fans nitpicking every single action of every single scene of the film (just read the negative reviews on Metacritic), the latest episode is wonderful.
Of course, it didn’t take long for me to discover the true magic of Star Wars and the sheer master class in storytelling the original trilogy has to offer. It has set box office records for biggest opening in countries including the United Kingdom, Australia and Russian Federation. Meanwhile, there were 4.9 million tweets about the pic from the evening of Thursday, Dec. 17, through Sunday evening, setting a new record for a film’s opening weekend on Twitter and becoming the most-tweeted movie of the year.
In a departure from previous iterations, “The Force Awakens” prominently features a strong female lightsaber-wielding lead, Rey (played by British newcomer Daisy Ridley), in addition to familiar face Leia Organa (played by Carrie Fisher).
The “Star Wars” box office takeover was also supported by some unusual promotions for ticket buyers. Presumably we’re going to learn a lot more about them in the films to come.
Disney is the parent company of ABC News.
“He opens the whole movie!” said Abrams.
Star Wars had the greatest villain in cinema history.
“You’ve got people coming out who aren’t frequent moviegoers”, said Will Palmer, chief executive of the film marketing analytics firm Movio.

He also pointed out that TIE fighters sound the same in space as they do on land, but all of the “Star Wars” movies drop science the moment you hear any sound in space.
