‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Could Gross $265 Million as Sequel Breaks

While “Star Wars” helped create the summer blockbuster, “The Force Awakens” is debuting in the holiday season of December, where the previous top opening was the $84.6 million debut of 2012’s “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”. It already broke the record for pre-sales, and now it’s taken the record for Thursday sales as well.

Clinton says she wants to go beyond ‘Buffett rule’ on taxes
President Obama proposed the Buffett rule in 2011 and pitched it again this year, but has gotten no traction in the Republican-led Congress.

Star Wars is certainly a film series that has meant a whole lot to a whole lot of people for a whole long time.

On Presidential Candidate Senator Marco Rubio: He fell down on this vote by not showing up, He should resign from the Senate! . Pelosi responded: “Tell them you tried to poison me, but I had the antidote”, according to the Democratic aide.

The next record that will fall is the three-day opening set this past June by Universal’s Jurassic World, which also served to relaunch a beloved franchise.

Saudi Arabia crushed by cheap oil – and the cuts are coming
Saudi Arabia spends a big chunk of its cash on doling out generous benefits for its citizens, including cheap fuel. Next year’s budget projects spending of 840 billion riyals, down from 975 billion riyals actually spent this year.

That would set a record and beat the current opening weekend title holder, “Jurassic World”, which premiered earlier this year to $208.8 million at the box office.

The latest Star Wars installment easily overtook “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2”, which had held the opening-day record at $91 million.

In case you’re wondering, the film already topped the opening weekend for a Star Wars film today, so everything is just gravy in that respect as The Force Awakens doubtlessly marches toward becoming the highest grossing Star Wars film in history. Whether “The Force Awakens” can come close to the global hauls of those films ($2.8 billion for “Avatar” and $2.2 billion for “Titanic”) won’t be clear for weeks.

After speaking about “the year behind us and the year ahead” and taking questions from reporters, the president signed off by saying, “Okay, everybody, I’ve got to get to Star Wars”.

“The Force Awakens”, directed by J.J. Abrams, stars Daisy Ridley and John Boyega in the key roles as Rey and Finn along with along with original “Star Wars” stars Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Mark Hamill as Luke Sywalker and Carrie Fisher as General Leia.
