There is no denying just how big the first movie will be for the ever-expanding Star Wars universe.

Lucas was honored with a “Star Wars” tribute complete with lasers, not to mention toasts by Carrie Fisher, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese. And no, he hasn’t got all of his shit together – I would say.

Although “Star Wars” is now part of the Disney roster alongside Marvel Studios, the long-running franchise won’t be taking a page out of its corporate sibling’s playbook.

Backen, who has seen the movies countless times, said that although the characters are not actively wrestling with philosophical concepts, the movies help explain a lot of human experience through their stories.

If you’re a science fiction fan who doesn’t buy into the “rivalry” between the two (seriously, they’re both fun), you’ll be happy to hear that Paramount has eeked out space in front of The Force Awakens to debut the first teaser trailer for Star Trek Beyond.

As the crowd of Washington power brokers and Hollywood celebrities stood and applauded, Lucas waved from a balcony, wearing the event’s signature rainbow-coloured garland. This year’s other honorees include singer-songwriter Carole King, actress and singer Rita Moreno, conductor Seiji Ozawa and actress Cicely Tyson. She was honoured for her diverse and boundary-pushing career, including memorable stints on children’s television.

“It feels terrific”, she said.

“She turned down more roles than you could imagine because they didn’t lift or serve us as a people”, actor-director Tyler Perry said.
