Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Leia is no longer ‘Princess’

This is a smart decision on the part of 20th Century Fox; there is already a very good chance that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be breaking a ton of records upon its release, and studios will be wise to take advantage of this and attach their trailers to the film.

Leia, who led Rebel Forces in the original films, no longer goes by “Princess”. Princess Leia has been elevated to the level of General. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are producing with Tommy Harper and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers.

Apparently Leia has gone over to the khaki side and is now spoken about in military terms in The Force Awakens, with Abrams telling Entertainment Weekly that: “She’s referred to as General”. “But … there’s a moment in the movie where a character sort of slips and calls her ‘Princess, ‘” he added. We’ll leave you to infer who that exception could possibly be.

Fisher also teased what’s in store for Leia’s “heavier” story in The Force Awakens, noting that while she’s “under a lot of pressure”, she remains “committed as ever to her cause”, despite “feeling somewhat defeated, tired, and pissed”. Maybe someone from her past like say…

Meanwhile, Fisher, 59, joked about reuniting with Han Solo actor Harrison Ford, 73, for the film. Therefore Leia is not concerned with goofing around. “But it felt historic to have her, especially with Harrison, back in scenes together”. Shonda Rimes shared the teaser on her official Twitter account and captioned that she herself is a huge Star Wars fan.
