Disney’s holiday blockbuster “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has surpassed “Frozen” at the worldwide box office, finishing Wednesday with $1.29 billion to move up the list of all-time top-grossing films to No. 8, not accounting for inflation, the Hollywood Reporter reported.
Lucas said that he had begun working on another Star Wars film before the sale, including preparing story treatments and “working with a writer”.
Although George may disapprove of certain elements involving the creative approach to the new Star Wars sequel, it seems fans around the world are elated with the project – the movie has made £809 million since its release. Disney has laid plans for two more “Star Wars” films and three anthology films set in the Star Wars universe over the next few years.
In the statement, Lucas said Disney is moving the franchise in exciting directions.
“The Force Awakens” plays homage to Lucas’ original trilogy and has garnered largely positive reviews from fans and critics alike.
With Tuesday’s totals, the 2015 domestic box office has crossed the $11 billion mark for the first time in history, according to measurement company Rentrak.
But on Rose’s show, Lucas criticised the producers and writers of the latest film for emphasising familiar elements of his previous work over innovation and storytelling of their own.

“So it wasn’t like they were taken away from me… and they felt they knew… they wanted to do a retro movie”. “Disney is doing an incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise”. “Every movie, I worked very hard to make them different, make them completely different with different planets, different spaceships, to make it new”.
