Star Wars: The Force Awakens On Pace To Break Even More Records
The seventh movie in the celebrated sci-fi franchise is projected to sell close to $220 million worth of tickets in the United States and Canada through Sunday, beating the record $208.8 million for “Jurassic World” in June, Disney said.

“The Force Awakens” started its US box office run in record-setting fashion with $57 million in Thursday night previews – 31% above the $43.5 million in previews for the final Harry Potter film.
It smashed the biggest Friday and biggest single-day record in North America, exceeding the 91 million USA dollars of “Deathly Hallows 2” by 29.5 million.
As expected, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broken the opening weekend domestic box office record. The movie set opening-day records in Australia, Brazil, Britain, France, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and other countries.
The financial force was strong with the new “Star Wars” film. Star Wars: The Force Awakens could snatch the record from Avatar, according to movie industry analysts. The film still has to open in Greece and India on December 24th and China on January 9th, though the latter has an uphill battle for Disney to generate interest, and they’ve been trying hard.
We’ll have more updates on The Force Awaken’s box office ascension as the news breaks. This breaks the record set by “Jurassic World” for the highest grossing four-day opening weekend. People outside of the U.S. may simply prefer dinosaurs to spaceships, but part of the disparity can be attributed to the delayed launch of the movie in China, removing the potential for a solid financial contribution from moviegoers in the growing market.

Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac star as new key players in the space opera, with Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher reprising their iconic roles. A select number of theatres began screenings on Thursday night, the culmination of 17-hour-long Star Wars marathon events.
