Star Wars: The Force Awakens – our spoiler-free review

Celebrities flocked to the world premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in Los Angeles.

Star Wars creator George Lucas has already seen the movie and has reportedly given it his seal of approval. However, even though it clocks in at just over two hours in length, the movie fairly rattles through a relentless succession of battles, lightsabre duels, cataclysmic explosions and reversals of fortune.

A host of local faces also stepped out to watch Ford and the other original Star Wars actors Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill return to the long-awaited sequel.

The Force Awakens premieres in the United Kingdom today ahead of general release tomorrow, when Brighton Premiere and entertainment agency the E3 Group will be hosting a special charity gala screening of the film at the Odeon on King’s Road on December 17.

He has retained those special moments between Han Solo (Ford) and Chewbacca, and great one-liners delivered by Ford do not go amiss.

The look and tone of the film is extremely reminiscent of A New Hope, from the production design to the familiar story of a youngster from a desert planet dreaming of a better life.

There are actual laughs to be had in The Force Awakens!

The “real star of the show”, he declared, was British actress Daisy Ridley, whose performance as scavenger Rey should “send her career into orbit”.

It’s one of the most anticipated movies of the year and it’s just days away from hitting a theater near you.

The medley features “The Star Wars Main Title”, “The Imperial March” and even the “Cantina Band”.

Unfortunately, it’s the Dark Side that needs a bit of fine tuning. Boyega as Finn is casting gold, and Driver, who plays Kylo Ren, is a force unto himself. I’m a “Star Wars” fan and I respect people’s desire to not have their first experience of the film ruined by knowing something they didn’t want to.
