Star Wars: The Force Awakens review – A loving homage and vibrant reboot
The cast of Star Wars is heading to the United Kingdom in time for tonight’s London premiere of Episode VII – The Force Awakens.

Abrams has crafted a film that is even more epic in scale than the previous Star Wars offerings.
“Risking heresy, it’s worth noting that Abrams actually did smarter, more inventive work on his 2009 reboot of ‘Star Trek, ‘ no doubt in part because he was working with a less heavily guarded enterprise. When we found actors like John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, obviously Daisy Ridley, it was just, it felt like a more fair and balanced cast”.
Mr Osborne said he was pleased to see Han Solo – played by Harrison Ford – was returning for the new movie.
Aside from directing “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, Abrams also co-wrote the screenplay with Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt based on the characters created by George Lucas.
Being a Game of Thrones fan I was hoping for a more substantial role for Gwendoline Christie, and I still have no idea what creature Simon Pegg was apparently playing/voicing.
But those are two minor gripes with the film.
The battle between the light and dark sides of the force continues, there are some seriously messed up family issues and unexpected heroes rise up in the face of adversity.
Since October 2012 – when Disney bought Lucasfilm and declared bold plans to release a new series of “Star Wars” movies and spinoffs – fans agonized over whether it could be done properly.
Everyone knows Mark Hamill will appear in some form as Luke Skywalker, with his absence from the trailers only intensifying the mystery around his character’s whereabouts. When Rey asks Solo, “You’re Han Solo?”, the rugged and now silver-haired veteran actor cheekily replies, “I used to be”.

“‘Star Wars, ‘ at once a cultural juggernaut and a sacrosanct institution, resists any attempt to reimagine its landscape too aggressively or imaginatively; that may be to the detriment of this diverting first effort, but Abrams has more than stoked our anticipation for what his successors may have up their sleeves”.
