Star Wars: The Force Awakens might also take another record from Jurassic World, this time for the global opening weekend record of $316.1 million.
The box office record for an opening weekend belongs to Universal’s “Jurassic World” which premiered to $208.8 million just six months ago.
Fans embraced the new installment in the series: A clash between good and evil in a galaxy far, far away.
As Darth Vader would say, “impressive…”
But “The Force Awakens” is riding a wave of hype, nostalgia and positive reviews from critics and fans alike.
The film became the first movie to break the $100 million mark in a single day in the USA making a whopping $120.5 million on its opening day, including $57 million on Thursday night.
Since beginning its overseas rollout Wednesday, “The Force Awakens” has made an estimated $129.5 million internationally. Star Wars: The Force Awakens themed Power Disc Pack will be sold separately at $9.99.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is setting records just a day after its release. By Disney’s estimates, “The Force Awakens” – the widest December opening ever with 4,134 theaters – blew past that number by Friday afternoon. China is the world’s second-largest film market.
