Star Wars: The Force Awakens Smashes All Records
As many expected, the hype surrounding Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broken box office records around the world for its opening weekend.

Other local records topped by The Force Awakens include largest opening day, largest four-day opening, largest seven-day opening, and the largest Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday daily total for any picture.
Disney also boosted its Friday estimate from at least $100 million in the early afternoon to $120 million by the late afternoon – smashing the opening day record of $91 million for 2011’s “Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows: Part 2”.
Despite raking in some $517 million worldwide on its opening weekend, it wasn’t enough to knock Jurassic World off the top spot.
The Force Awakens began rolling out in global markets last Wednesday.
Then, all the super fans dressed as Chewbacca, Luke and Leia helped Episode VII make million in Thursday night showings: another record.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens made £38m on Thursday night.
Tell Us: What did you think of the film? Industry insiders believe the number could be closer to $240 million, final weekend totals come out on Monday.
The film also set a new opening day box office record in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Its ability to profitably exploit “Star Wars” across all its divisions was the justification for Disney’s $4 billion purchase of Lucasfilm LLC in 2012.
That’s just one of the records that The Force Awakens box office numbers smashed into oblivion, and it seems bound to potentially smash a few more as well.
Strong reviews for the film, which is set 30 years after “Return of the Jedi”, have added to the fervor for “The Force Awakens“.
