Basically the entire world has seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but everyone who saw it is pretty antsy to see it again.
The White House screened the new film for Gold Star military families Friday, but there was more.
Los Angeles: of its India release, which is slated for Christmas Day, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, the seventh episode of the “Star Wars” series, shattered numerous records around the world in its box office debut this weekend, ushering in a new era for the marquee franchise.
To give context, the previous record holder was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which opened to $43.5 million on a Thursday night in 2011. Through Friday, worldwide ticket sales had reached $129.5 million, as the movie set opening-day records in Britain, Germany, Australia, Brazil and other countries.
The movie is likely to become the highest grossing film in an opening weekend Disney added, while reporting that it had already made 250 million globally.
“I think it definitely stomps on Jurassic World’s records”.
Forty-seven percent of Thursday’s domestic ticket sales came from 3D tickets, Disney said.
A lot is riding on the film for Disney, which paid $4.06 billion for Lucasfilm in 2012.
Such a positive reaction for “The Force Awakens” may attract the kind of repeat viewings that made James Cameron’s “Avatar” and “Titanic” the highest grossing films of all time.
