“When I first heard that MTV wanted to give me the Generation Award, I thought that was like code for the “Old Ass Dude Award”-‘Congratulations, your best work is behind you, have fun'”.

The Lonely Island performed a medley of Will Smith’s greatest hits in honor of him receiving the MTV Generation Award at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards.

“Star Wars” might have taken home the MTV Movie Awards’ top honor, but Chris Pratt seemed to capture America’s hearts. Star Wars was the night’s biggest victor, also nabbing the Breakthrough Performance win for star Daisy Ridley and Best Villain for Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren.

Ryan also thanked his fans for allowing him to get the sci-fi movie out after 10 years of trying and admitted that it “wasn’t all unicorns and cocaine”, suggesting he had a hard time getting the movie off the ground.

The South African actress, who put on 30 pounds (14 kilograms) and won an Oscar for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in “Monster” (2003), sparked controversy last week for complaining that she had lost out on film roles because she was too “pretty”. Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Cara Delevingne assembled to present the “Suicide Squad” clip. During her speech she humbly thanked comedic legends like Carol Burnett, Gilda Radner and Lucille Ball for paving the way for her in Hollywood.

Ryan Reynolds collected two awards – best comedic performance for his role in comic book movie Deadpool, and best fight for a sequence in the film with Ed Skrein.

Backed by a half dozen female dancer dressed in bear suits, Johnson and Hart rapped about “movies you’ve actually seen”, culminating with the iconic moment that never actually happened in “The Revenant”.

Then, men in trench coats with briefcases ascended on stage for a choreographed routine, and when they left, just one briefcase was left behind, opening to reveal Eddie Redmayne, who rose up from it.

Actor Alexander Skarsgard went for a pantless look at Saturday’s taped award show as he presented an award with actor Samuel L. Jackson – who was wearing trousers – for Best Movie Award. Director J.J. Abrams and Ridley exchanged hugs with Johnson and Hart as the show closed out with fireworks to match the sea of light sabers.
